• Excel Program

  The purpose of this program is to allow selected and capable students in grades 6 through 8 opportunities to enhance basic skills and develop higher order thinking through specialized learning experiences beyond that of the regular classroom, thereby allowing these students to optimize their abilities to the highest level.
  
  Program Features
  The program is project-based, invloving a great deal of cooperative learning. Each project encompasses and integrates areas of language arts, reading, math, science, and social studies. Excel students are encouraged to do the following:

  • Develop and demonstrate the ability to identify and solve problems
  • Develop and demonstrate advanced research skills
  • Demonstrate and apply higher level thinking processes
  • Become independent, creative, and self-directed thinkers
  
  
  Structure
  The Excel Program is structured as follows:
  • Zero (0) period beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 7:45 a.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday mornings
  • Eight-week session each quarter of the school year
  • More than two (2) absences and/or more than two (2) tardies each session constitutes dismissal from this program
